Cougars travel to California for second straight season
HOUSTON – Houston looks to continue its two-game winning streak when it heads to California for a pair of weekend meetings with California Baptist and UC Riverside.

- Houston will flyt to California for a pair of road matches in the Golden State against Division I newcomer California Baptist and UC Riverside.
- The Cougars are fresh off of a 2-0 weekend where five Cougars posted goals and three Cougars posted assists.
- Houston is 1-2 on the road this season and 0-1 in the state of California under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra.
- Olivia Lee and Desiree Bowen are tied for third in The American in points with four each.
- Lee and Bowen are also tied for second in the conference with two goals each.
- Lee is The American leader in game-winning goals with two this season.
- Mia Brascia leads The American in the assist category with three on the season along with Andrea Hauksdottir of USF.
- Bowen is second in the conference with 13 shots this season.
- Senior goalkeeper Rachel Estopare leads the team with 17 saves and is third in The American in the category.
- As a team, Houston leads The American in shots with 80 thru four games, shutouts with two so far and corners with 30.
- Nationally the Cougars are 12th in shots this season and 46th in assists per game.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
- Friday's match will be the first meeting between Houston and California Baptist
- The Lancers are 2-1 this season, suffering their only loss at the hands of UC Davis in a 0-2 decision.
- CBU is in its first season of Division I competition under Head Coach Kristen St. Clair.
- Miranda Hald and Desarae Felix lead CBU in scoring this season with two points off of a goal each. Erin Gallagher and Elisa Solderholm have each notched an assist this season.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
- UC Riverside leads the all-time series with Houston 0-1-0, last meeting in 2016 when they defeated the Cougars 3-0.
- The Highlanders have started the season 2-0 with wins over St. Mary's, Loyola Maryland, and CSU Bakersfield.
- UC Riverside will play Fresno State prior to its Sunday meeting with Houston.
- Madeline Feist is an offensive force for UC Riverside with two goals and two assists this season.
- The Highlanders enter their seventh season under Head Coach Nat Gonzalez.
OTHER NOTABLESÂ
- Jazmin Grant is third all-time in points per game with 1.13 after only fifteen games.
- Bowen is tied for eighth all-time in goals with 13 and is two goals away from jumping to sixth all-time.
- Estopare is now third all-time in saves per game with 5.47 and tied for second all-time in save percentage with volunteer assistant coach Cami Koski at 0.799.
- The Houston Soccer team has several California connections with four players from the state of California. Bocanegra grew up in the state and spent time both playing and coaching in the area. Assistant Coach Danesha Adams spent time playing in California at UCLA and Associate Head Coach Blair Quinn spent time playing and coaching in the state of California.
