Cougars open fall season at Maui Jim Invitational on Sept. 21-23 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Golf program will compete in 10 regular-season tournaments, including five in the state of Texas, during the 2018-19 season, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Thursday.
The Cougars will compete in four tournaments during the fall, starting with the Maui Jim Invitational on Sept. 21-23 at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. Houston will tee off in six tournaments during the spring season, hosting five of those events.
Under the leadership of Dismuke – who enters his 10th season at Houston in 2018-19, the Cougars will travel to five states as well as Mexico.
"This is the best schedule we have had since I have been at Houston," Dismuke said. "We have a chance to tee it up against some of the best teams in the country, week in and week out, and that gives our players a chance to compete against the best as we head into the postseason."
Eight student-athletes return from the Cougars' 2017-18 team, which posted five top-five finishes. Junior Zach Tracy is the team's leading returning player after posting a 72.87 scoring average with 15 rounds of par or better. The Houston native was one of two Cougars to earn All-American Athletic Conference honors a year ago.
In addition to the veterans, the Cougars welcome four newcomers to the program in 2018-19, including freshman Chris Chomyn (Irvine HS, Irvine, Calif.), junior Alex Isakson (Argyle, Texas, McLennan, CC), junior Luke Long (Fayetteville, Ark., Chattanooga), freshman Braxton Watkins (Winthrop, Ark., Pleasant Grove HS) and junior Logan Young (Normangee, Texas, Concordia University).
"This is a different group from what we have had in the past, but these guys are hungry and want to improve dramatically from last year," Dismuke said.
