Duo Named Arthur Ashe Jr Sports Scholars

HOUSTON â€" For the second consecutive season the University of Houston Swimming & Diving program had athletes selected as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar's.
Micaela Bouter and Peyton Kondis were each named First Team Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars, exhibiting excellence both in the pool and in the classroom. The award honors undergraduate student-athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and in their respective sports. The award is named after tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr. who was committed to education, community and leadership.
Bouter just closed out a decorated career on the Houston Swimming & Diving team. The South Africa native is a two-time American Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and two-time American Athletic Conference 3M Springboard Champion. Bouter qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships every year of her career and earned American Diver of the Week honors 12 times during her time at Houston. This is the second consecutive season that Bouter has been named to the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar First Team.
Kondis just closed out her sophomore season at the University of Houston. The two-time American Athletic Conference Champion in the 100 Breaststroke posted four personal-best and three top-10 times in program history during the 2017-18 season. Kondis was one of three Cougars to compete at the 2018 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, earning All-Conference honors in four events at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
