Houston Earns 3-1 Win over Lamar

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball used a three-run seventh inning to come-from-behind and win, 3-1, over Lamar for its fourth straight victory at Schroeder Park on Tuesday.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 12-8 on the year and 10-3 at home, while Lamar fell to 4-16 with the loss.

Starter Brayson Hurdsman had career-outing, tossing a career-ling 6.1 innings in his second start of the year. He allowed just one run on three hits with three strikeouts before handing it over to senior reliever Joey Pulido in the seventh.
Pulido worked 1.2 shutout innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk with five strikeouts for the win, improving to 2-1 on the season.
Sophomore reliever Carter Henry made his 10th appearance of the season and earned his first career save with a shutout inning of work to close out the 3-1 victory.
KEY INNINGS
7th | Lamar jumped out to a 1 -0 lead following a lead off double and RBI-single.
The Cougars quickly responded with a three-spot to take a 3-1 lead on the Cardinals.
The bottom half of the inning was sparked by a lead off single by Ron Brown. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tucker Redden and to third on an infield single to place runners on the corners.
Landon Etzel took over as pinch runner at third and following a Padgett steal to second; Connor Hollis executed an RBI-squeeze bunt to tie the game at 1-1. Joe Davis then followed with an RBI-single to left field, scoring Padgett and then came around to make it 3-1 on a Lael Lockhart Jr. triple to left center.
ON DECK
The Cougars will remain home to host Prairie View A&M on Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Houston will then begin its quest to defend its American Athletic Conference title from 2017 when it opens conference play vs. Memphis next weekend in a three-game series.
