Houston Wins Weekend Finale

HOUSTON -- Highlighted by a four-run second inning, Houston Baseball collected 11 hits and six runs to wrap up a successful weekend at Schroeder Park, earning a 6-2 win over Columbia on Sunday.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 11-8 on the year and have won three straight this weekend. Columbia falls to 3-15 with the loss.
HOUSTON HITS
- Jared Triolo has reached base in 18 straight games.
- Joe Davis has reached in 16 straight games.
- Clay Aguilar tossed 2.2 shutout frames to extend his streak to 5.0 scoreless innings in relief.
- The top five hitters in Houston's lineup totaled eight of the 11 hits.
- Houston improves to 9-3 at home with the win.

Joe Davis led the Houston offense with two hits and three RBI, highlighted by a bases-clearing RBI-double in the second inning. Lael Lockhart Jr. collected two hits and a pair of RBI, while Connor Hollis and Tucker Redden each had a two-hit day.

Houston starter Ryan Randel went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts to earn his second win as a Cougar, moving to 2-2 in 2018.
Freshman Clay Aguilar made his second relief appearance of his young career, tossing 2.2 shutout innings, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and three strikeouts to extend his scoreless pitching streak to 5.0 innings.
Lockhart took over in the ninth to close it out, tossing 1.0 shutout inning with a strikeout.
KEY INNINGS
1st | Houston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on four hits, highlighted by RBI-singles from Lockhart and Triolo, scoring Hollis and Davis, who also singled.
2nd | Columbia made it a one-run game in the second on a solo home run, but the Cougars responded in the latter half of the inning with four runs to extend their lead to 6-1.
With one out, Redden and Padgett reached on back-to-back singles and Hollis loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch. Davis then doubled, clearing the bases for a three-run base hit, before coming around to score the inning's fourth run on a Lockhart RBI-single.
3rd | Columbia opened the third with a leadoff double and scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-2 in favor of the Cougars.
ON DECK
The Cougars will remain home for five games next week, beginning with two midweek games vs. Lamar (Tuesday -- 6:30 pm) and Prairie View A&M (Wednesday -- 6:30 pm). Houston will then begin its quest to defend its American Athletic Conference title from 2017 when it opens conference play vs. Memphis next weekend in a three-game series.
