HUMBLE, Texas â€" University of Houston senior Papito Gonzalez posted his second straight round of par or better and was tied for ninth at 5-under-139 to lead the Cougars following the Second Round at the All-American Intercollegiate on Saturday evening.
Competing as an individual, freshman Alexander Frances made four birdies on his back nine, including two of the last three holes, and posted the Cougars' low round of the day with a 71 to move into a tie for 25th at 2-under 142.
Frances enjoyed his second straight sub-par round. The Stege, Denmark, native endured eight pars and a pair of bogeys through the first 10 holes but rallied on the back nine.
He made his first birdie of the day on the par-4 11th and followed with another birdie on the par-4 12th. Despite a bogey on No. 12, Frances rallied to make birdies on No. 16 and No. 18 and was tied for 25th at 2-under 142.
The Cougars posted a team score of even-par 288 and slipped into third place with a 36-hole total of 14-under 562 on the 7,067-yard, par-72 course at Golf Club of Houston.
No. 10 Auburn fired the low team round of the tournament with a score of 17-under 271 and surged into the Second Round lead at 31-under 545. It was the second-lowest team round in All-American Intercollegiate history, trailing only the 268 set by Baylor in the Second Round on Feb. 18, 2017.
No. 3 Baylor finished Saturday in second at 558 with No. 30 South Carolina (564), No. 48 Mississippi (567) and No. 13 Wake Forest (568) rounding out the top-six leaders.
Individually, Auburn's Jovan Rebula fired a 65 Saturday and moved up 10 spots to take the lead at 10-under 134. He tied the individual low round in tournament history, done eight times and most recently by Baylor's Garrett May in the Second Round of the 2017 All-American Intercollegiate on Feb. 18, 2017.
Baylor's Garrett May stood in second at 9-under 135, while South Carolina's Keenan Huskey and Auburn's Trace Crowe were tied for third at 136.
Gonzalez was one of four Cougars to shoot even par in Saturday's round, draining a pair of birdies. Senior and 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships medalist Michael Perras sank three birdies during his even-par round, while sophomore George Gardner enjoyed two birdies and the team's lone eagle of the day.
Junior Matt Williams tied with Frances for the team-lead with four birdies on Saturday and joined Perras and Gardner in a tie for 15th at 3-under 141. Sophomore Pryce Beshoory was tied for 90th at 152.
Sophomore Zach Tracy was tied for 55th at 147, while sophomore Tony Gil was tied for 65th at 149. Senior Alan De Bondt was tied for 75th at 151.

Sunday's Final Round begins with an 8 a.m., split-tee start. Admission is FREE, and all are invited to attend.
The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Auburn and Baylor beginning at 9:36 a.m., off No. 1. Beshoory starts the day at 9:36 a.m., with Williams (9:44 a.m.), Gardner (9:52 a.m.), Perras (10 a.m.) and Gonzalez (10:08 a.m.) following.
Frances begins the Cougars' individual play at 8 a.m., off No. 1 with Tracy and Gil following at 8:08 a.m. De Bondt begins at 8 a.m., Sunday, off No. 1.
ALL-AMERICAN INTERCOLLEGIATE HISTORY
For years, the All-American Intercollegiate ranked as one of the nation's premier collegiate tournaments, featuring some of the country's top student-athletes and teams.
The tournament was played every season from 1955 to 1990. After a one-year break in 1992, the tournament picked up and was played again from 1992 to 1997. The All-American Intercollegiate resumed in 2006 and was played each season through the 2008-09 campaign
This marks the third straight season in which the Cougars have hosted this tournament. A year ago, Baylor captured the team title with a score of 28-under 836 to finish five shots ahead of Vanderbilt. Baylor's Cooper Dossey earned medalist honors with a score of 10-under 206 to finish three shots in front of five golfers.
The Cougars lead the way in their tournament with 23 team titles and 20 individual championships during its history
UP NEXT
Following the All-American Intercollegiate, the Cougars return to action when they play host to the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on March 4-6 at Querencia Golf Club in San Jose, Cabo, Mexico.
From there, Houston will host the Border Olympics on March 9-10 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.
