Cougars welcome 13 of nation’s Top-50 programs to Valspar Collegiate Invitational beginning Monday

PALM CITY, Fla. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program will play host to one of the nation's premier collegiate tournaments during the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club, beginning Monday morning.

Schools will play 36 holes Monday beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CDT) with the Final Round starting Tuesday morning on the 7,088-yard, par-71 layout. Admission is free, and all fans are invited to attend.

The Valspar Collegiate Invitational has become one of the nation's top annual collegiate tournaments, and the 2026 edition is certainly no exception. The event features five of the nation's Top-10 and 13 of the Top 50.

A year ago, Texas captured the team championship with a score of 36-under 816 to finish 13 shots ahead of Arizona State. North Carolina's David Ford earned medalist honors with a score of 18-under 195 to finish two strokes in front of Jase Summy (Oklahoma) and Daniel Bennett (Texas).

Houston enters the Valspar Collegiate Invitational after finishing fifth at its own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on March 16-17. Juniors Chi Chun Chen and Grant Doggett stood among the Top-15 individual leaders to lead the Cougars.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, Houston will be represented by senior Hudson Weibel, junior Grant Doggett, junior Chi Chun Chen, sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen and senior Bryant Hiskey II.

This season, Weibel leads the Cougars with a 70.48 scoring average and 16 rounds of par or better in 21 total rounds. The Dallas native has won three individual championships in 2025-26 and leads the team with four Top-20 finishes and eight rounds in the 60s.

Chi Chun Chen stands second on the team with a 72.00 average and 10 rounds of par or better. He was the first of three Cougars to shoot a season-low 64 this season, reaching that milestone in the Final Round of the Argent Financial Classic (September 9, 2025). Weibel and Hiskey later joined Chen in that 18-hole score.

TEAM FIELD
For the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, the Cougars will face #1 Auburn, #6 Texas, #7 Arkansas, #8 Arizona State, #10 Texas Tech, #13 Pepperdine, #14 Oklahoma, #17 North Carolina, #23 Duke, #24 USC, #29 Wake Forest, #30 Florida, #32 Texas A&M and Augusta.

TEE TIMES
For Monday's action, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Arkansas, Auburn and Florida State.

Doggett begins the day in the first group off No. 1 at 7:30 a.m. (CDT) Monday with Weibel (second group off No. 1), Chi Chun Chen (No. 2), Hsuan-Yi Cen (No. 3) and Hiskey (No. 4) following.
