Houston Among Top 25 in National Rankings

Cougars move to No. 5 in NCAA NET, No. 19 in USA TODAY Coaches’ poll, No. 21 in Associated Press poll
HOUSTON – Winners of their first 12 games to open the season, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program stood among the nation's Top 25 in both national polls and the latest NCAA NET rankings Monday.The Cougars, who knocked off Coppin State 75-44 inside the Fertitta Center on Sunday to win their 25th consecutive home game, received 203 points to rise to No. 19 nationally in the USA TODAY Coaches' poll.
This week, Houston earned eight more points in the Associated Press poll with 274 but slipped one spot to No. 22
The Cougars also moved up two places to No. 5 in the latest NET rankings released daily by the NCAA. The NET rankings replaced RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.
The system relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency and qualities of wins and losses.
It was approved in July after consultation with the Division I Men's Basketball committee, National Association of Basketball Coaches, top basketball analytics and Google Cloud Professional Services.
UP NEXT
• The Cougars continue their season-long, seven-game homestand and wrap up their non-conference schedule when they play host to NJIT at 3 p.m., Saturday, inside the beautiful Fertitta Center.
• From there, the homestand continues against Tulsa (7 p.m., Jan. 2) and Memphis (5 p.m., Jan. 6).
