Senior point guard earns first weekly award of career
HOUSTON – After leading his team to close wins over LSU and Saint Louis, University of Houston senior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. was honored Monday as the American Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week.
Playing all but nine minutes last week, Robinson led the Cougars with 15.5 points per game while hitting 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the field. The Houston native and Westbury Christian product also snared 4.0 rebounds per game while leading the Cougars with 4.5 assists per contest.
Robinson tied for game-high honors with 18 points, thanks to 7-of-15 shooting from the field, and added five rebounds with a game-high six assists and only two turnovers in an 82-76 win over LSU on Wednesday inside the Fertitta Center.
He finished with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and added three rebounds and three assists with a pair of steals in Sunday's win over Saint Louis inside the Fertitta Center.

Robinson has helped lead the Cougars to a 10-0 start this season for only the second time in school history and the first since 1967-68. In addition, his Houston teams have won their last 23 home games for the nation's second-longest active home winning streak.
A four-year letterman for Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, Robinson has competed in all 109 games during his career and ranks sixth in Houston history with 454 assists. As he continues to ascend in that category, he is poised to become only the second player in Houston history with four 100+ assist seasons during their careers.
For their impressive performances last week, the Cougars rose to No. 20 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches' poll and moved to No. 21 in the most recent Associated Press poll.
This was Robinson's first weekly award in his career.
Robinson shared the award with Temple's Shizz Alston. USF's Alexis Yetna was honored as the league's Freshman of the Week, while Kyvon Davenport (Memphis), Jaime Echenique (Wichita State), DaQuan Jeffries (Tulsa), Isiaha Mike (SMU) and B.J. Taylor (UCF) were named to the Honor Roll.
