Ranked in both national polls, the Cougars look to extend their 22-game home winning streak. That is the nation's second longest active streak and trails only the 26-game streak by South Dakota State.
Houston enters Sunday's game on the heels of an 82-76 win over LSU on Wednesday night inside the Fertitta Center. Trailing by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Cougars did not allow an LSU field goal for nearly 10 minutes while taking off on a 31-12 run.
Against the Tigers, senior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. led the Cougars in scoring, totaling 18 points with five rebounds and six assists. Junior guard Armoni Brooks added 13 second-half points with a team-high nine rebounds to lead the Cougars to the victory.
This season, Brooks leads the Cougars with 16.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The Round Rock, Texas, native is one of only two players to rank among the Top-11 leaders in the American Athletic Conference in both scoring and rebounding.
Senior guard Corey Davis Jr. stands second on the team with 15.6 points per contest, while Robinson stands third with 9.8 points per game. With 6.2 assists per game, Robinson leads the Cougars and The American in that category.
With their 9-0 start, the 2018-19 Cougars are only the third team in school history to accomplish that feat and the first since 1969-70.
Since 2015-16, the Cougars have posted a 49-8 home record in front of the hometown fans while competing in three venues. Houston has enjoyed a 3-0 record this season inside the Fertitta Center and finished 19-1 inside H&PE Arena on the campus of nearby Texas Southern University and 27-7 inside Hofheinz Pavilion before its $60-million renovations were completed.
