Cougars enter Associated Press poll at No. 24, stand at No. 22 in latest USA TODAY Coaches’ poll
HOUSTON – After eight straight wins to open the season, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returned to the Top 25 in both national polls Monday.Under the leadership of 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars received 102 points to stand at No. 22 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches' poll and earned 173 points to rank No. 24 in the latest Associated Press poll.
This marks the second straight season that Houston was ranked nationally. A year ago, the Cougars finished the 2017-18 season at No. 21 in the final Associated Press and at No. 22 in the final USA TODAY Coaches' poll.
The Cougars have not been ranked in back-to-back seasons since 1983-84.
With an 8-0 record this year, the 2018-19 Cougars are only the third team in school start to start that well and the first since 1969-70.
In addition to their impressive overall record, the Cougars have reeled off 21 consecutive home victories inside H&PE Arena and the Fertitta Center. That ranks as the second-longest active home winning streak in the nation.
UP NEXT
• The Cougars return to the Fertitta Center to begin a season-long, seven-game homestand, at 8 p.m., Wednesday, against LSU. A limited number of tickets for that game were recently released and are available online by clicking here.
• From there, Houston continues the stand against Saint Louis at 2 p.m., Sunday.
• The homestand continues against Utah State (7 p.m., Dec. 20); Coppin State (3 p.m., Dec. 23); NJIT (3 p.m., Dec. 29), Tulsa (7 p.m., Jan. 2) and Memphis (5 p.m., Jan. 6).

Mini-plans start at only $40 with single-game tickets beginning for as low as $12 for non-conference games and $10 for American Athletic contests.
