LAHAINA, Maui – University of Houston juniors Zach Tracy and Logan Young and sophomore Alexander Frances each posted even-par 71s to lead the Cougars during the First Round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic on Friday evening.
Competing on the 6,700-yard, par-71 Royal Ka'anapali Course at Ka'anapali Golf Club, the Houston trio was tied for 59th. Tracy led the Cougars with four birdies, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 8-9, while Frances added three birdies apiece.
Sophomore Andrew Gibson was tied for 84th at 73 while senior Matt Williams was tied for 104th at 76
As a team, the Cougars were tied for 15th with George Washington at 286.
No. 9 Clemson held the first-day lead at 262 to stand four strokes ahead of No. 26 California. No. 16 Georgia (268), Boise State (271), No. 39 West Virginia (271), No. 34 South Carolina (271), UCLA (272), No. 11 Oklahoma (275), No. 27 North Florida (278) and Wyoming (280).
UCLA's Patrick Murphy and Clemson's Zack Gordon were tied for the individual lead after posting 63s. No. 35 Scott Stevens (South Carolina) stood in third with a 64, while No. 6 Trent Phillips (Georgia), Turk Pettit (Clemson), Matthew Sharpstene (West Virginia) and Joe Fowler (Sacramento State) were tied for fourth at 64.

PAIRINGS
For Saturday's Second Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Sacramento State, Washington and George Washington.
Young will begin the day for the Cougars in the first group off No. 10 with Tracy (No. 11), Gibson (first group off No. 12), Frances (second group off No. 12) and Gibson (No. 13 following).
The Final Round begins Sunday.
UP NEXT
Following the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic, Houston will take a break for the winter holiday before opening the spring season when it plays host to its own All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 17-19, 2019.
