D’Eriq King Named Earl Campbell Award Semifinalist

Houston quarterback leads the nation in points responsible for and passing touchdowns
HOUSTON – Houston quarterback D'Eriq King, the nation's leader in points responsible for and passing touchdowns, has been named a semifinalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, SPORTyler announced Friday.

After throwing for a score and rushing for a score Thursday night vs. Tulane before exiting the game with a knee injury, King leads the nation with touchdowns responsible for with 50 and passing touchdowns with 36.
For the year, King has thrown for 2,982 yards and 36 touchdowns on 219-of-345 passing while rushing 111 times for 674 yards and 14 touchdowns.
King surpassed The American Athletic Conference's record for touchdowns responsible for in a season in his 10th game, breaking the previous record of 45 set by UCF's McKenzie Milton in 2017.
With a rushing touchdown vs. Tulane, King has a rushing TD in every game this season to lead the nation with an active streak of 10 games.
He's one of just two quarterbacks in FBS history with at least 35 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns in a season, joining Marcus Mariota in his 2014 Heisman winning season.
With five passing touchdowns and one rushing score vs. Temple, King had at least two passing scores and a rushing score in the first 10 games of the season. It was the longest such streak by an FBS player in over 20 years.
He became only the 13th FBS QB with 400+ yards passing and 100+ yards rushing in a game with his performance vs. USF which included seven total touchdowns.
He was the first UH QB to throw for at least 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in a game since Kevin Kolb in 2003, and is the only UH quarterback to accomplish the feat twice in a season after doing so vs. Temple.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in FBS football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.
