Senior guard Corey Davis Jr. leads all with 9 treys & 27 points
University of Houston senior guard Corey Davis Jr. led all players with 27 points, thanks to nine 3-pointers, as the Cougars rolled to an 89-60 win over Dallas Baptist inside H&PE Arena in an exhibition game presented by Maintenance Supply Headquarters.
Davis, who was a Preseason All-American Athletic Conference honoree, connected on 9-of-13 from the arc and grabbed four rebounds with a pair of assists. Had Thursday's exhibition been a regular-season game, his 3-point total would have tied the school single-game record, set by Robert McKiver on three occasions.
Junior guard Armoni Brooks added 11 points with 10 rebounds, while redshirt freshman forward Cedrick Alley Jr. totaled 12 points with 10 boards.
Dallas Baptist jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the opening minutes, but an 11-0 run over the next four minutes gave the Cougars the lead for good. Houston drained 47.1 percent of its shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes while limiting the Patriots to only 25.1 percent.
After DBU used a 10-0 run late in the first half to move to within 41-27 at the break, the Cougars expanded their lead with a 13-3 run early in the second half and took advantage of a 17-0 run late in the game for the final margin of victory.
Alley returned to the Houston lineup after missing all but two games from 2017-18 due to a hip injury. The Houston native and Klein Forest High School product connected on 3-of-6 shots from the field and buried all four tries from the free throw line while grabbing 10 rebounds, including three off the offensive glass.
Making his Houston debut, sophomore guard DeJon Jarreau added five points with two steals and a game-high nine assists. Senior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. did a little of everything for the Cougars, scoring six points with four rebounds and five assists.
Freshman guard Nate Hinton totaled six points with six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in his collegiate debut. Senior guard Landon Goesling, sophomore forward Brison Greshman and redshirt freshman center Caleb Broodo also made their initial appearances in the Scarlet and White.
Conner Lidiak led Dallas Baptist with 14 points, while Jalen White added 13 points. Chandler Jacobs finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds with Zach Lord chipping in with a team-high four assists.
