Bowen and Morrison highlight regular-season award winners for Houston
HOUSTON – University of Houston Soccer junior forward Desiree Bowen and freshman midfielder Reid Morrison earned American Athletic Conference regular-season honors, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Bowen was named to the All-American Athletic Conference First-Team and Morrison was tabbed for the All-Rookie Team.
Â
Bowen led the Cougars in scoring and goals with 14 points off of seven goals. The award marks the second regular-season honor for Bowen, after earning All-Rookie team honors at the conclusion of her freshman season in 2015. Bowen closed out the season ranking fourth all-time in goals at Houston with 18.
Â
Morrison had a stellar debut season for the Cougars as a force on both sides of the field. The freshman scored her first collegiate goal against conference foe UConn in a 3-2 win on Sept. 20. Morrison posted the second-best shooting percentage on the team with 10 shots this season, five of which were on target for a 0.500 shot percentage.
Â
Defensively, the California native maintained a presence in the midfield and helped Houston post four shutouts this season.
Â
In its second season under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra, the Cougars closed out the season with its best record in The American since joining the conference in 2013.
