D’Eriq King Named The American’s Offensive Player of the Week

Junior quarterback takes honor for second straight week and third time this season
HOUSTON – Houston quarterback D'Eriq King was named The American Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season, the league office announced Monday.

This week's honor came after King totaled seven touchdowns and 551 yards of total offense in Houston's 57-36 win over previously undefeated USF.
The Manvel, Texas, native threw for 419 yards and five touchdowns on 28-of-40 passing while rushing for 132 yards and two scores on 12 attempts, leading a Houston offense to the most points ever scored against USF.
Saturday's game was the eighth straight of 40+ points this season for the Houston offense that leads the nation in total offense with 571.1 yards per game while trailing only Alabama in scoring offense at 49.8 points per game.
After eight games of action, King leads the nation in points responsible for with 236, is No. 3 nationally in passing touchdowns with 28, No. 5 in total offense with 352.0 yards per game, No. 6 in rushing touchdowns with 11, No. 6 pass in efficiency with a rating of 173.0 and No. 8 in passing yards with 2,403.
With 39 touchdowns responsible for already this season, 28 passing and 11 rushing, King already ranks fourth on The American Athletic Conference's single-season chart for touchdowns responsible for, and is only six away from the record of 45 set by UCF's McKenzie Milton in 2017.
His 11 rushing touchdowns also leads all quarterbacks nationally as he is the only quarterback in the nation with at least 20 passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns.
Monday's honor was also King's fourth of his career, tying Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver for the second-most among active players in The American.
