Benjamin Named American Swimmer of the Week

PROVIDENCE – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team found its name on the list of American weekly award winners for the third straight week after Haley Benjamin was tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week.

Benjamin continued to have an impressive debut season posting two first-place finishes at SMU this past weekend. The freshman's two top finishes helped the Cougars to a 152.50 – 147.50 win over the Mustangs and a 229.00 – 71.00 win over North Texas. Benjamin finished first in the 1000-yard Freestyle (10:23.21) and the 500-yard Freestyle (5:02.40), both times rank top-three in The American this season and were the fastest in The American for the weekend.

The award marks Benjamin's first weekly award and the third for the team this season.

UP NEXT
Houston will return to action Nov. 16-18 at its annual Phill Hansel Invitational. The three-day meet features teams from across the country in a championship style setting.
