Houston defensive tackle earns honor for second time of the season
HOUSTON – Following a weekend that saw a career-high five tackles for loss, Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver has been named The American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

Oliver's five tackles for loss were a part of his six total tackles on the day and included two sacks, one of which resulted in a fumble that was returned six yards for a Houston touchdown by linebacker Emeke Egbule.
After Saturday's game, Oliver leads all active players nationally with a career average of 1.63 tackles for loss per game.
Despite facing constant double and triple teams this season, Oliver leads all defensive linemen nationally with an average of 7.67 tackles per game and 46 total tackles.
With his five tackles for loss at ECU, Oliver recorded his 16th career game with multiple TFLs, and now has 51 career tackles for loss in only 31 games. With the 51, Oliver is now third on the UH career TFLs chart and is only 15 away from the Houston career record.
Monday's announcement marked the second such honor of the season for Oliver who also earned the distinction after Houston's week one win over Rice. In that game, Oliver finished with 13 tackles including 3.5 tackles for loss.
