Houston Closes Quad Meet Strong

FULL RESULTS
HOUSTON â€" The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team recorded 4 podium finishes in its final day of action against Rice, LSU, and Tulane Saturday at the CRWC. It's final tune up before the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship, Houston defeated Rice and Tulane, falling to LSU.
"We're glad that LSU, Tulane, and Rice came to race," said Head Swimming and Diving Coach Ryan Wochomurka. "We continue to focus on how this meet prepares us for what we are trying to do two weeks from now at our First Chance meet and more importantly, 17 days from now at the conference championship. I'm excited to see what we do over the next two and a half weeks."
Houston started out the session with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, Laura Laderoute, Peyton Kondis, Victoria Tillman, and Cait Horner combined to touch the wall at 1:43.90 for the first podium finish of the day for the Cougars.
Ashley Grijalva notched another podium finish for the Cougars after placing third in the 100 Breaststroke, the senior closed out the race in 1:04.15. Angeliki Mavrantza followed close behind Grijalva, touching the wall one millisecond later for a fourth-place finish.
Jenny Penneck posted her highest finish of the session, pacing the Cougars with a fourth-place finish in the 200 Backstroke. Penneck finished at 2:01.53.
Sharo Rodriguez raced her way to a second-place finish in the 200 Butterfly, the senior finished with a time of 2:01.08.
The Cougars wrapped up its second of back-to-back home meets with a third-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Hanna Blewett, Victoria Padial, Katie Power, and Julie Gibson closed out both the event and the meet with a time of 3:28.28.
On the springboards, Micaela Bouter racked up 298.30 points for second-place, followed by Lauren Burrell with 201.85 points for fifth-place. Alexandra Gutierrez closed out the event in eighth-place with 186.30 points.
UP NEXT
Houston will take the next two weeks to prepare for the Houston First Chance Meet on Feb.10 before heading to Dallas to defend its 2017 American Athletic Conference title at the The American Conference Championship Feb. 14-17.
