Houston Closes Out TYR Pro Series Strong

AUSTIN â€" The University of Houston Swimming and Diving team posted one top-10 finish and five top-20 finishes on its final day of competition at the TYR Pro Swim Series â€"Austin.
"It was good to race again after a layoff over the holidays," said Head Swimming & Diving Coach Ryan Wochomurka. "We are very encouraged with the performances we saw this weekend. We came to measure ourselves against the best athletes in the world and I'm proud of how we stepped up to that challenge. We are eager to carry this momentum back to the entire group to this Friday and Saturday against some tough SEC opponents."
Houston freestyle specialist, Zarena Brown and Ksenia Yuskova kicked things off for Houston at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center after turning in a pair of top-60 finishes in the 50 freestyle. Yuskova led the charge, finishing 47th with a time of 27.15 and was followed by Brown in 59th-place after touching the wall at 27.44.
Laura Laderoute and Eleanna Koutsouveli put on a strong performance in the 50 Backstroke, both finishing in the top-20. Laderoute posted her highest finish of the weekend in prelims, finishing 13th with a time of 29.41. Koutsouveli turned in her fourth top-20 finish of the weekend in the event with a time of 29.81 for 18th-place.
In the 400 Freestyle, Zarena Brown earned her best finish of the day after finishing 15th with a time of 4:20.94.
Houston had a huge day in the 30th event of the meet, with all three Houston swimmers finishing in the top-30. Peyton Kondis led the charge with the Cougars best finish of the weekend in preliminaries, touching the wall at 31.86 for seventh-place. Angeliki Mavrantza closed out the race with a time of 33.41 for a 20th-place finish, followed by Gaby Jimenez Peon in 29th-place with a time of 33.42.
UP NEXT
Houston will return to action on Friday and Saturday of next week at the CWRC when it meets with SEC opponents Arkansas and Vanderbilt.
