HOUSTON -- The Houston Soccer team got its first taste of fall action under head coach Diego Bocanegra in a contest that ended in a 0-0 tie at UTSA Sunday evening.
How It Happened
The Cougars maintained a steady momentum throughout the match, posting 14 shots, five of which were on goal. Nine Cougars recorded shots during the match, led by freshman Jazmin Grant and senior Selena Peters with three shots each. Houston put a valiant defensive effort, holding the Roadrunners to nine shots in total.
Helping Hands
Three goalkeepers spent time in goal during the match. Rachel Estopare got the starting nod, while Kate Godfrey and Kaitlin Sterner split time in the second half. Godfrey capped off her freshman debut with a team-high two saves.
Coach's View
"It was great to finally face outside competition as we transition from the preseason to the non-conference," said Bocanegra. "I thought we had some very good moments and I was happy with the way we continued to attack for the entire 90 minutes. Most importantly we stayed disciplined and minimized our defensive break downs. If we continue to focus on the process, the results will come in time."
