Cougars to Host Houston Alumni Invitational

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Track & Field teams continue the outdoor season by welcoming its alumni back on campus for the Houston Alumni Invitational on Saturday, at the Carl Lewis Complex.

RELAYS FROM START TO FINISH
Saturday's running competition will begin with the 4x100-meter relay and will conclude with the 4x400-meter relay. The Cougars enter the meet with some of the top times in the nation in each event, including the men's 4x1, where three separate squads hold top-25 times in the nation at No. 6 (39.37), No. 10 (39.47) and No. 22 (39.77). The women hold two of the nation's top-15 times in the 400-meter relay at No. 14 (44.23) and No. 15 (44.29).
In the 4x400-meter relay, the Cougar men enter with the 18th fastest mark this season at 3:07.15, which they set by winning the invitational event at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays a week ago. The women will compete with the NCAA's 75th best mark at 3:44.11.
THESE COUGARS ARE FAST
Houston will enter five sprinters into Saturday's Alumni Invitational who hold times that are ranked among the nation's best in their respective events.
A pair of top Cougars will compete on the straight track, led by Cameron Burrell who holds the nation's No. 10 time in the 100-meter dash this season at 10.26. Freshman Sierra Smith will compete in the 100 for the women, ranking No. 49 in the NCAA with a personal best of 11.62.
The Cougar women will be well represented in the 200-meter dash as senior Tori Williams and freshman Brianne Bethel enter the mix. Williams ranks No. 31 in the NCAA this season with a top-time of 23.45, while Bethel's best of 23.85 places her 75th in the nation.
Sophomore Raymund Clarke will also be on the track for Houston competing in the longest sprint, the 400-meter dash. Clarke ran 47.11 to finish second at the Victor Lopez Classic in March to post the nation's No. 36 time in the quarter-mile.
UP-AND-OVER THE HURDLES
Sophomore hurdler Amere Lattin returns to action after running the nation's No. 10 time in the 110-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays. Lattin has a season best of 13.79 in the event and was named American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week in consecutive weeks on March 21 and 28.
THE JUMPS
Three Cougars will enter separate jumping competitions with top marks in the nation on Saturday, beginning with Antwan Dickerson in the men's long jump. Dickerson jumped 24-2.25 (7.37m) at the Texas Relays, to post the NCAA's No. 49 mark this season.
In the vertical leaps, sophomore Haley Houston enters the pole vault competition with a season-best 12-7.5 (3.85m) to rank No. 78, while in the men's high jump, sophomore Colin George brings the 63rd best mark at 6-8.75 (2.05m).
THROW IT FAR
Junior Cameron Cornelius enters Saturday's shot put competition with the No. 10 mark in the NCAA this season. Cornelius launched the shot a personal best 61-11.5 (18.88m) the last time Houston was at home in the Cougar Spring Break Invitational. Meanwhile, sophomore Nora Monie will enter the discus at the Alumni Invitational with the nation's 76th best mark at 160-4 (48.86m).
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars will travel to Torrance, Calif., to compete in the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. The event, hosted by Mount San Antonio College, will be held April 13-15 at Murdock Stadium, on the campus of El Camino College.
