HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Softball team picked up its fourth straight win in a 10-0, five-inning shutout of Georgetown on Tuesday night at Cougar Softball Stadium.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 10-11 overall, while the Hoyas fell to 4-15. The shutout is Houston's second of the season after previously blanking Rhode Island, 12-0, in five innings on February 17.
The Cougars pounded out 10 runs on nine hits. Redshirt sophomore Sarah Barker highlighted the offense with a 2-for-3 performance with two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. Junior Kaylin Crumpton and sophomore Savannah Heebner each doubled in a two-hit showing at the plate.
Freshman Trystan Melancon ran her record to 4-5 behind three scoreless innings, scattering two hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Hannah Wolfe logged the final two innings in the circle, working around two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
KEY INNINGS
1st | After Crumpton led off the bottom of the first with a single through the left side of the infield, a fielder's choice from Barker and consecutive walks to senior Shelby Miller and Heebner loaded the bases. Sophomore Maya Thomas got the Cougars on the board with a bunt single in the next at bat, before sophomore Elise LeBeouf plated one more on a walk.
8th | An eight-run, seven-hit frame, capped off Houston's run support for the evening. Barker led off with a single and stole second base, before Miller walked. Heebner plated Barker on a single through the left side of the infield. Thomas then followed with another bunt single to load the bases. A walk to sophomore Brooke Vannoy, illegal pitch and infield error then helped the Cougars plate three runs, before base hits from Crumpton (double), Barker (single) and Miller (single) pushed across four more.
