MEMPHIS, Tenn â€" Winners of six of its last seven games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to action when it faces Memphis at 4 p.m., Sunday, inside FedExForum.
The Cougars will have revenge on their minds after the Tigers claimed a 70-67 win in overtime in the first meeting on Jan. 19 inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Houston (19-8 • 10-5 American) enter this weekend's game on the heels of a 75-70 win over UConn on Wednesday inside Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to sweep the regular-season series against the Huskies and grab a 1-game lead for third place in the latest league standings.
With a win against the Tigers, the Cougars will clinch a First-Round bye for The American Championships, set for March 9-12 inside XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
Junior guard Rob Gray continues to lead the Cougars and The American with 20.4 points per game. Scoring 16 points in Wednesday's win over UConn, Gray is the only Cougar to score double-digit points in all 27 games and looks to become the Cougars' first scoring champion since guard Aubrey Coleman in 2009-10.
Senior guard Damyean Dotson looks to add his name to the Houston records book Sunday. Dotson, who prepped at Yates High School, has drained at least one 3-pointer in all 27 games to date this season.
With a trey against the Tigers, he will equal the school record of 28 straight games, held by guard Robert McKiver during the 2007-08 season.
Dotson also ranks fourth in the league with 17.2 points per game and stands 12th with 7.1 rebounds per game. He is one of only three players to rank among The American's top-12 leaders in both scoring and rebounding and joins with Gray to make Houston the only team with two of the league's top-4 scoring leaders.
