Cougars Travel to No. 25 LSU for Quad Meet

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Swimming & Diving team will travel to Baton Rouge, La., to compete at the LSU Quad Meet on Jan. 27 and 28 at the LSU Natatorium. The Cougars will face familiar opponents Rice and Tulane and compete against No. 25 LSU for the first time this season.
Friday's events begins at 5 p.m., and Saturday's schedule will start at 11 a.m.
Friday's itinerary includes the 200-yard medley relay, 1000-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard freestyle, 1-meter dive, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, and 400-yard freestyle relay.
The order of events for Saturday begins with the 400-yard medley relay and continues with the 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard backstroke, 3-meter dive, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard individual medley, and 200-yard freestyle relay.
LAST TIME OUT
Junior diver Micaela Bouter, freshman Laura Laderoute and the 400-yard freestyle relay team all won individual events at the Vanderbilt Quad Meet. Through six meets, Bouter remains undefeated in the 1-meter event as the Johannesburg native nabbed a score of 305.25 to capture first overall. In the lanes, Laderoute won her third individual event of the season after placing first overall in the 200-yard IM while the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Cait Horner, Laura Laderoute, Ksenia Yuskova and Zarena Brown touched the wall at 3:29.46 to net the top spot.
RETURNERS
Houston is returning six of seven student-athletes from the 2016 All-American Conference Team. Sophomore Koutsouveli swept the backstroke events and podiumed in the 400 IM at the 2016 American Championships. Fellow Sophomore Hannah Herbst won the 500-yard freestyle and placed third in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
On the boards, diver Taylor Olanski will look to four-peat in the platform, while Bouter looks to defend her 3-meter crown.
Back in the pool, junior Ashley Grijalva won bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke, and senior Jasmine Williams earned a bronze medal in the 100-yard backstroke.
NEWCOMERS
The Cougars' 2016 signing class includes Miami (Fla.) transfer Yuskova along with freshmen Hanna Blewett, Brown, Lauren Burrell, Gaby Jimenez, Peyton Kondis, Laderoute, Sydney Larson, Claire Liptak, Emily Longfellow, Hannah Middleton, Victoria Roubique and Isabel Tank.
UP NEXT
Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the second consecutive year as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 15-18. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 15-18 in Indianapolis, Ind.
