Bouter, Laderoute Capture Wins as Cougars Open Quad Meet

NASHVILLE, Tenn. & CLEMSON, S.C. â€" Junior Micaela Bouter and freshman Laura Laderoute led the Houston Swimming & Diving team on the first day of the Vanderbilt Quad Meet Friday evening. Bouter captured first in the 1-meter while Laderoute won the 200-yard IM as the Cougars lead Vanderbilt after the first day.
Houston leads Vanderbilt, 89-78, to kick off the two-day meet while the Cougars trail Arkansas 111-56.
ON THE BOARDS
Junior Bouter remains undefeated in the 1-meter springboard event. The Johannesburg, native, earned her sixth consecutive first place finish in the 1-meter event after tailing a score of 305.25. Bouter was also the top finisher for the Cougars in the platform event, placing seventh overall after netting a score of 207.50.
IN THE POOL
Freshman Laderoute nabbed her third individual win of the season after placing first overall in the 200-yard IM. The West Linn, Ore., native, touched the wall at 2:05.69 to claim the event. In the 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Eleanna Koutsouveli placed second overall with a time of 56.62 while Laderoute placed third after netting a time of 56.98.
Freshmen Zarena Brown and Peyton Kondis also nabbed top-three finishes. Brown earned a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.14. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Kondis touched the wall at 1:05.24 to round out the podium.
The Cougars earned podium finishes in both relay events of the evening. In 200-yard freestyle relay event, the team of Cait Horner, Brown, Hanna Blewett and Michaela Hamrick placed second overall with a time of 1:36.21. The 400-yard medley relay team of Laderoute, Kondis, Sharo Rodriguez and Brown nabbed a time of 3:51.44 to finish third overall.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will return to the pool Saturday morning with the swimming events beginning at 11 a.m. in Nashville, Tenn., while diving gets underway 11:30 a.m. in Clemson, S.C., at the McHugh Natatorium.
COUGARS TO HOST AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the second consecutive year as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 15-18. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 15-18 in Indianapolis, Ind.
