ABOUT the COUGARS
The Cougars, who finished 22-10 and competed in the National Invitational Tournament for the first time in a decade a year ago, return three starters this season, including All-American Athletic Conference Team performer and Yates High School product Damyean Dotson and All-Rookie Team member and Houston native Galen Robinson, Jr.
Houston was one of only two teams in the league, which defeated every American Athletic Conference rival at least once during the regular season.
With only the 15th 22-win season in school history, the Cougars boasted a 9-game improvement from their 13-19 mark in 2014-15. That total ranked as the 13th-highest improvement among 351 NCAA Division I schools in 2015-16.
FERTITTA CENTER COMING SOON
Thanks to a generous $20 million gift from University of Houston Board of Regents Chairman Tilman J. Fertitta and his family, the Cougars will compete in the Fertitta Center during the 2018-19 season.
Following the 2016-17 season, Hofheinz Pavilion will undergo a $60 million renovation. The Fertitta Center will feature a premium club area and a courtside club. The reconfigured bowl will move mid-court seating locations closer to game action with floor-level seating opposite the team benches for UH students.
Renovations include a new audio system, sports lighting and video boards as well as new concession stands and expanded restrooms. The facility's exterior also will be refreshed.
