QUICK HITS
• Houston's participation in the HBU tournament marks the return for head coach Kaddie Platt to her old stomping grounds. Platt posted a 499-157 record as head coach of the Huskies for 17 seasons (1995-2011) before coming over to UH. Platt was also a four-year letterwinner at HBU from 1988-91 and still ranks eight all-time in solo blocks (98) and 11th in digs (1,193). She was named all-district in 1991, voted MVP in both 1989 and 1991, and inducted into the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in 2000.
• Houston is 31-11 all-time in season openers dating back to 1974 (no results available prior to 1974) and 3-1 under Platt. Platt, who has won her last three season-openers with the Cougars, is 15-6 all-time in season-opening matches across her career.
• Tickets for the tournament are $5 for adults and $2 for students with their valid Houston ID. All tickets are general admission. Children 12 years of age and under will get free admission.
• Following the HBU tournament, Houston will host consecutive tournaments inside Athletics/Alumni Center. The Cougars will host Idaho State, Lamar and Texas Southern in the Houston Cougar Classic (Sept. 2-3), later welcoming in HBU, Louisiana-Monroe and San Jose State for the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup (Sept. 9-10).
