Michael Perras Named to All-Conference Team

HOUSTON â€" University of Houston sophomore Michael Perras earned the first postseason award of his collegiate career when he was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team on Friday afternoon.
Perras was one of 14 players selected for the postseason squad in voting by the league's head coaches. This marks the fourth consecutive season in which the Cougars have had at least one All-Conference honoree.
In 2015-16, Perras has been a consistent performer for the Cougars. The Deer Park, Texas, native captured the individual title at the HBU Husky Intercollegiate in his first event of the season and leads the Cougars with nine top-20 finishes in 12 tournaments.
At the HBU Husky Intercollegiate, Perras opened with a 63 in the First Round, becoming only the fourth player in school history to post a score that low in any round. He joined Andy Sanders, Ray Barr and Keith Fergus as the only Cougars to shoot 63 in competition.
This season, he leads the Cougars with a 71.97 scoring average and 18 rounds of par or better. He also enjoyed runner-up finishes at the President's Day Challenge (Feb. 15) and the Border Olympics (March 11-12) and finished third at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational (Feb. 29-March 1).
USF's Aksel Olsen was named the American Player of the Year, while Trosper was recognized as Freshman of the Year. USF's Steve Bradley was honored as Coach of the Year.
Perras was joined on the All-American Athletic Conference Team by Trosper, Olsen, Manuel Elvira (UCF), Eric Dietrich (UConn), Wes Conover (East Carolina), Jacob Hicks (East Carolina), Thomas Perrot (Memphis), Lars van Meijel (Memphis), Claudio Correa (USF), Rigel Fernandes (USF), Chase Koepka (USF), Austin Smotherman (SMU) and Brandon Matthews (Temple).

Perras and the Cougars will compete as the No. 6 seed when they tee off at the NCAA Franklin Regional on Monday morning at Vanderbilt Legends Club. He will be making his NCAA Regional debut at this event but competed with the Cougars as a member of the starting lineup at the NCAA Championships a year ago in Bradenton, Fla.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each Regional advance to the NCAA Championships to be played May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. Houston has advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons.
Houston, which ranks No. 35 nationally by Golfstat, was one of 81 teams and 45 individuals selected to compete at the NCAA Regionals. This will mark the fifth straight season in which the Cougars will compete as a team at an NCAA Regional, the first time program has accomplished that feat since 1998-02.

Ryan Cole (James Madison), Ryan Cornfield (South Carolina Upstate), Matthew Lowe (Richmond), Jose Montano (Xavier), Patrick Cover (UNC Wilmington), Thomas Eldridge (UNC Wilmington), Joey Lane (Virginia Tech), Jake McGlone (UNC Greensboro), Ryan Wenzler (Wright State), U Minn Woon (Fairleigh Dickson) were selected to compete as individuals.
FIRST-ROUND PAIRINGS
The 3-day, 54-hole tournament will be played with 18 holes each day. For Monday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in threesomes with student-athletes from Washington and Virginia off No. 10.
Scobie will start the day off No. 1 at 8:20 a.m., with Gonzalez (8:31 a.m.), Martino (8:42 a.m.), Hamilton (8:53 a.m.) and Perras (9:04 a.m.) following.
