HANOVER, N.H. â€" The Houston Cougar women's tennis team went head-to-head with No. 46 Dartmouth early Saturday morning in Hanover, N.H. Despite the tough battle, the Cougars were unable to secure a win, falling 6-1 to the Big Green.
Dartmouth scooped up the doubles point with wins on courts one and two, leaving the powerful duo of Despoina Vogasari and Rocio Martin with their first doubles loss in over a month. However, Vogasari and Martin's 6-2 loss was not without a vigorous battle against the No. 16 doubles team in the ITA rankings, Taylor Ng and Kristina Mathis. Tina Rupert and Maria Cardenas also fell to Dartmouth, being defeated 6-3 by Katherine Yau and Julia Schroeder on the second court. Lorenzo and Markovic were up 5-3 against Lexxi Kiven and Jacqueline Crawford on the third court when doubles concluded.
It was Martin who would come away with a win for the Cougars in singles play however, defeating Mathis in a long deuce point on the third court. After dropping the first set 6-3, Martin battled back to finish 6-3, 6-4 and secure the victory. Vogasari and Markovic both fell in narrow second set tiebreakers against Dartmouth, with No. 91 Vogasari losing 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) to Ng at the top court and Markovic losing 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) to Yau on the second court.
Dartmouth's first three singles points of the day came from the final three courts with Rupert falling 6-2, 6-4 to Crawford, Lorenzo falling 6-2, 6-2 to Schroeder and Cardenas falling 6-1, 6-2 to Allison Chuang.
