Cougars Fall 4-0 to In-State Rival SMU

DALLAS -- The Houston Cougar women's tennis team fell 4-0 to in-state rival SMU in its first road match since Feb. 13 in Dallas, Texas on Saturday.
With only five active players, Houston was unable to fill a court in both singles and doubles competition, and entered play down 1-0. In the doubles competition, with SMU only needing to win one out of the two doubles matches, Hristina Dishkova and Dasha Sharapova defeated Tina Rupert and Mina Markovic 6-1 to give SMU the 2-0 lead. Despoina Vogasari and Rocio Martin led Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Mary Wright 3-2 when doubles play ended.
The Mustangs were able to earn their final two points of the day on the singles court where Markovic fell first, 6-2, 6-1 to Bulgakova on the second court. SMU's Yana Erkeeva picked up the final point of the match with a 6-4, 6-0 defeat of Rupert on the fourth court.
Martin was battling for a victory on the third court, leading 6-4, 4-2 over Sharapova when today's match concluded, while Vogasari was leading 7-6 (5), 3-2 over Dishkova at the top court, and Angela Lorenzo was down a set 6-3, 3-4 to Wright on the fifth court at the end of play.

The Coogs will return home for a week of rest before hitting the road for Hanover, N.H. to go up against Dartmouth on Saturday, March 26 at 8:30 a.m. CT.

For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
