HOUSTON â€" Houston Softball dropped a heartbreaker to Lipscomb, 5-3, in the final game of the series Sunday afternoon.
Houston dropped to 11-11 on the season while Lipscomb improved to 12-12.
The Cougars opened the game early in the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead off two hits and a Lady Bison error. Freshman Brooke Vannoy knocked a one-out single through the left side to kick start the rally. Fellow frosh Elise LeBeouf was pegged by Lipscomb's pitcher, placing runners on first and second.
Vannoy advanced to third on a fly-out before scoring on an error by Lipscomb catcher Abby Fenichel who muffed the throw down to second.
Freshman Maya Thomas laid down a beautiful bunt single to load the bases before Breelyn Thames drew the RBI walk after an eight-pitch battle at the plate.
Lipscomb responded the following half inning as shortstop Baylee Williams hit a two-run homer to tie the game. The Lady Bison took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third off two hits.
Houston tied it up again 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI single down the left line by senior Katie St. Pierre.
Three scoreless innings ensued before Lipscomb rallied in the top of the seventh. The Lady Bison plated two more runs with two outs on the board.
Houston comeback was cut short as the Cougars fell 5-3 to the visiting Lady Bison.
St. Pierre has now reached base in all 22 games this season and 23 consecutive games dating back to the 2015 season.
Freshman RHP Presley Bell (3-3) went 6.2 innings and struck out a career-high seven batters. Junior RHP Shelby Miller entered to finish the final out, giving up only one hit.
