PROVIDENCE, R.I.- After helping the University of Houston Swimming & Diving team to wins over Rice and Tulane, Freshman Eleanna Koutsouveli was named the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week for her great performance at the Houston Quad Meet.
This is Koutsouveli's first weekly honor and the third for a Houston swimmer in 2015-16 (Delia Weber, Jan. 26 and Ashley Grijalva, Nov. 24).
The Athens, Greece native, individually captured two podium finishes for the Cougars Jan. 29 & 30. In her first colligate appearance in the 400-yard IM, Koutsouveli swam the race in a time of 4:21.60, placing second overall. She also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke, the freshman clocked in at 55.50.
"Eleanna continues to perform at a high level," said head swimming and diving coach Ryan Wochomurka. "She has adapted well to swimming short course yards. She will be a major factor at the conference meet in two weeks."
