Bouter Crowned 3-Meter Conference Champion

HOUSTON -- Sophomore Micaela Bouter set a meet record in the 3-meter on Wednesday evening, and the 200-yard medley relay team breaks the program record on the first day of the American Athletic Conference Championships at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
After day one, Houston is in second place overall with a score of 103. UConn leads the way in first with a score of 116, while SMU is in third with a score of 84.
"A conference championship and a school record, that's a great start," said head swimming and diving coach Ryan Wochomurka. "There is a great team battle shaping up for the next three days and we will be in thick of it."
Bouter earned her first individual conference championship title, setting a meet record with a score of 335.65. The Johannesburg, South Africa native's best dive came in her final dive of the evening, the reverse 2 ½ somersault tuck, which she earned a score of 63.00. Teammate Danielle Shedd rounded out the podium with a score of 320.85. The senior netted her best score in the forward 3 ½ somersault tuck capturing 58.80 points on her dive.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Eleanna Koutsouveli, Ashley Grijalva, Sharo Rodriguez, Caitlin Horner set a new program record. The relay touched the wall at 1:40.50, to place fouth overall, breaking the school record set at the 2013 Conference USA Championships.
The team of Delia Weber, Micaela Hamrick, Rachel Hobbins and Hannah Herbst place sixth. The Cougars swam the race in a time of 7:22.81.
"I'm very excited about the energy we brought this evening," Wochomurka said. "The key for us will be to continue to bring that same energy for the next six sessions."

COUGARS TO HOST AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the first time as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 17-20, 2016. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 17-19, 2016 in Atlanta.
