Birden joined the Houston program last summer after two seasons at Blinn Junior College. He started his UH career as a cornerback with his first action against Lamar when he stripped a Lamar receiver and recovered the ensuing fumble.
The following week saw the Houston native move across the line of scrimmage to running back, a position he would see action in at Cincinnati and Texas State before staring the next four games. In his seven games at running back, Birden has rushed for 266 yards and six touchdowns on 56 attempts while pulling in six receptions for 47 yards and one touchdown. He also has one kick return for 20 yards.
In Houston's 38-31 win over Tulsa, Birden ran for a career-high 82 yards and three touchdowns while adding two receptions for 21 yards.
