BRADENTON, Fla. - The University of Houston Men's Golf program saved its best for its final team round of the 2015 NCAA Championships on Sunday morning, posting a team score of 293 in the Third Round to move into a tie for 26th.
As a team, the Cougars finished the NCAA Championships with a score of 906 to tie for 26th with No. 27 UNLV. Sunday's team total bettered their previous low by eight shots and was 19 strokes better than Saturday's Second-Round score. The Cougars were one of 21 teams to finish three rounds by Sunday evening.
Play was suspended at 5:28 p.m. (CST) due to lightning in the area. Third-Round play will resume at 6 a.m. (CDT), Monday, on the 7,483-yard, par-72 layout at the Concession Golf Club with the Fourth Round scheduled to start 30-45 minutes after any team and/or individual playoffs but no earlier than 9 a.m. (CDT) Monday.
After all 30 teams complete 54 holes, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will compete in one additional round of stroke play Monday to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the NCAA individual national champion.
Junior Blair Hamilton and senior All-American Roman Robledo each fired sub-par rounds to lead the Cougars in their Final Round as a team. Hamilton posted the team's lowest round of the tournament with a 69 and was tied for 22nd at 218, while Robledo tallied a 70 to finish in a tie for 44th at 221.
