Houston enters the postseason after tying for fifth at the SMU/DAC Invitational on April 10-12 in Dallas. Ferguson finished with a score of 223 to tie for 13th and lead the Cougars against a field, which featured eight of the nation's top-50 programs.
HOUSTON LINEUP
Second-year head coach Gerrod Chadwell and assistant coach Lucy Nunn recently released the team's lineup for the team's first postseason event. Ferguson, Bremer, Gilbreth and freshmen Megan Thothong and Yuka Kajiki will represent the Cougars this weekend.
It marks the third consecutive tournament in which the Cougars have used this lineup.
For the second straight season, Bremer has established herself as the Cougars' leading competitor. The Anaheim, Calif., native leads the program with a 74.08 scoring average and eight rounds of par or better. Bremer leads the Cougars with four top-10 finishes this season, with all four coming in a five-tournament stretch midway through the year.
Ferguson is the program's lone senior and has emerged as one of the team's top players in recent tournaments. The Clear Lake, Texas, native was the only unbeaten Cougar at the SDSU Farms Invitational on March 23-25, posting a 3-0-1 record in match play, and led the team at the SMU/DAC Invitational on April 10-12 with a 13th-place finish.
A year ago, she rebounded from a tough, opening-round 82 to move into a tie for 12th at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
Gilbreth will compete in her ninth tournament this season and her second straight American Athletic Conference Championships starting Sunday. The Bellaire, Texas, native has posted a pair of top-5 showings this season, including a career-best second-place finish at the UNF Collegiate on March 9-10 to help lead the Cougars to the first team championship in program history.
True freshmen Thothong and Kajiki will make their American Athletic Conference Championships debuts this weekend. Despite competing in her first collegiate season, Thothong has been a consistent performer for the Cougars and joins Bremer as the only Cougars to compete in every team-scoring tournament to date this season.
The Dallas native is a close second on the team with a 74.50 scoring average and six rounds of par or better. She also earned her first collegiate title at the UNF Collegiate on March 9-10 while leading the Cougars to their first team championship.
With her Final-Round 68, Thothong clinched medalist honors and posted the lowest round in school history.
Like Thothong, Kajiki is competing in her first collegiate season and show glimpses of a bright future. The Hiroshima, Japan, native finished third at the Mary Fossum Invitational on Sept. 13-14, 2014, in only her second collegiate event and has enjoyed a pair of top-10 showing this season.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY
While this will be the first time that Houston has competed as a team at the American Athletic Conference Championships, this is the second straight season the Cougars are represented at this postseason event.
A year ago, Courtney Ferguson, Raegan Bremer and Emily Gilbreth competed as individuals. Bremer finished with a score of 225 to finish fourth on the way to being named to the All-American Athletic Conference Team.
As a first-year program during the 2013-14 season, the Cougars were not allowed to compete for team championships under NCAA rules.
UP NEXT
Following the American Athletic Conference Championships, the Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate during the NCAA Selection Show at 6 p.m., April 27 on the Golf Channel.
