TULSA, Okla. -- The No. 29 University of Houston tennis team will face eighth-seeded UConn on Thursday in their 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship opener. The quarterfinal match begins at noon CT at the Case Tennis Center.
UConn (15-8) advanced to the quarterfinals after beating ninth-seeded East Carolina, 4-0, on Wednesday morning in a first round battle.
The top seed in the tournament, Houston (20-4) is 2-0 all-time against UConn, including a 6-1 win on Feb. 28 in East Hartford, Conn. Despoina Vogasari, Elena Kordolaimi, Tina Rupert, Rocio Martin and Charlotte Phillips each earned singles wins in the regular season meeting.
Patrick Sullivan's club is in the midst of a school-record 16-match winning streak and has not lost since Feb. 14. UH is undefeated against American opponents this season, posting a 7-0 record by a combined score of 36-8.
