GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Houston sophomore Taylor Olanski completed her 2014-15 season on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships. Competing in the platform dive event, Olanski finished 17th at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Olanski scored a total of 255.20 on her five dives. She finished just 6.60 points shy of 16th place and a spot in the consolation finals.
The sophomore's first dive, a Reverse 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck, was her top-rated effort at 53.20. She performed two other dives that were scored over 50: a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Pike that received a 52.20, and a Back 2 1/2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Pike, her final dive, that was graded at 52.80.
Olanski is the 20th diver in Houston history to qualify for the NCAA/AIAW Championships, and the 15th Cougar to achieve the feat more than once. She also competed at the NCAA Championships as a freshman in 2014, when she placed 14th in the platform.
Jessica Parratto of Indiana won the National Championship in the platform dive and was joined on the podium by Haley Ishimatsu of USC and Cheyenne Cousineau of Miami (Fla.).
The NCAA Championships performance wraps up a very successful season for the London, Ontario native. She won both the 3-meter and platform titles at the American Athletic Conference Championships in February to earn American Diver of the Year honors. She also turned in a strong effort at the Zone D Championships earlier this month, when she finished 4th in the platform.
