- University of Houston sophomore Taylor Olanski will represent the Cougars at the 2015 NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships, to be held March 19-21 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. Olanski will take part in the platform dive event, which will be contested on Saturday, March 21.
Saturday's platform preliminary round will begin at 12:45 pm CT, with live video provided by host institution NC State. The 9th-16th place divers from the preliminary round will take part in the consolation finals, which start 15 minutes after the conclusion of prelims. The top eight will advance to the finals session, which begins at 6 pm CT. Live video for the evening round is available on ESPN3.
ESPNU will televise a two-hour, tape-delayed broadcast of the 2015 NCAA Championships on Tuesday, March 31, beginning at 5 pm CT.
Each round of the platform dive will feature live scoring, courtesy of DiveMeets.
Olanski qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing fourth at the Zone D Championships, held March 11 in Iowa City, Iowa. The sophomore tallied a total score of 575.85 and had no issue finishing in one of the Zone's nine platform qualifying spots. Her best dive, a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Pike, was scored a 68.15.
The Greensboro Aquatic Center is a familiar location to Olanski. The London, Ontario native competed at the facility last month at the American Athletic Conference Championships and posted the most successful performance of her collegiate career. Olanski won both the 3-meter and platform events to earn American Diver of the Year honors.
Olanski scored a 274.96 in the finals and a 246.40 in the prelims at the American platform meet. In the finals session, the sophomore clinched the conference crown with a Back 2 1/2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Pike that earned a 62.40.
As a freshman in 2014, Olanski competed in two events at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. She finished 39th in the 3-meter competition and 14th in platform, with a score of 557.20.
Olanski is the 20th diver in Houston history to qualify for the NCAA/AIAW Championships, and the 15th Cougar to achieve the feat more than once.
Houston has produced 17 All-American divers that have accounted for 68 All-American honors during the program's illustrious diving history, and two Cougar divers have been crowned NCAA National Champions. Current UH Assistant Coach for Diving Yulia Pakhalina won the 1-meter and 3-meter titles in 2001, the 3-meter in 2002 and the 1-meter and 3-meter crowns in 2003. Her Olympic teammate, Anastasia Pozdniakova, took the 1-meter title in both in 2009 and 2010.
The most recent Cougar diver to win All-American honors was Lacey Truelove, who capped her career with a ninth place finish in the 3-meter in 2011.
