SKILLMAN, N.J. - University of Houston senior Elena Kordolaimi moved back into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings on Tuesday, as the Lamia, Greece native was ranked No. 107 among singles players. As a team, the Cougars held steady at No. 34, while sophomore Despoina Vogasari rose one spot to No. 33.
Kordolaimi had risen as high as No. 52 this season but fell out of the national rankings on Feb. 24 despite consistently stellar play. The senior has won 14 of her last 15 matches and is 20-5 for the season, with only one spring loss.
Vogasari, the reigning Texas Regional Champion, has spent the entire spring season ranked in the top-35. The Athens, Greece native is 22-5, with six wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
The two Cougars are the only ranked singles players from American Athletic Conference programs, and Houston is the only top-75 team from the league.
As a club, the Cougars (10-4) are riding a six-match winning streak after a 6-1 victory over No. 52 Texas on March 7. Houston has beaten six ranked opponents this season, a new program record.
