HUTCHINSON, Kan. - University of Houston seniors Curtis Reed and James Ross and junior Roman Robledo were named to the PING All-Central Region Team, Golf Coaches Association of America officials announced Thursday.
It was the second time that all three Cougars were named to a postseason team. Earlier this month, the Houston trio earned places on the All-American Athletic Conference Team.
The Cougars tied with Oklahoma and Texas for the second-most players on the All-Central Region Team. Oklahoma State led the way with five selections.
A total of 157 players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West earned All-Region honors for 2013-14.
ABOUT THE HONOREES
Robledo has established himself as one of collegiate golf's premier performers in 2013-14. The Harlingen, Texas, native won three straight individual titles to open the spring season and is currently ranked No. 25 nationally by Golfstat.
This season, Robledo leads the Cougars with a 71.37 scoring average, 22 rounds of par or better, including eight in the 60s, and six top-5 finishes.
Reed stands second on the team with a 72.26 average and 18 rounds or par or better. The only player to compete in every Houston team-scoring event during the last four years, Reed also has etched his name in the Houston records book, ranking fourth in school history with 143 rounds and fifth with 10,472 strokes during his collegiate career.
This season, he has posted 10 top-20 finishes in 12 events, including top-10 showings in each of his last four events entering the NCAA Championships.
Ross stands third on the team with a 72.62 scoring average and 14 rounds of par or better. He was the third Houston member to earn a place on the All-American Athletic Conference Team and joins Reed and Robledo among the nation's top 85 collegiate players.
The Edinburgh, Scotland, native also has made a name for himself this season on the international stage. In late March, he competed for Team Europe vs. Team Asia/Pacific in Bangalore, India, in an international friendly match for the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy.
He recently was selected as a Team Europe participant for the Palmer Cup, a Ryder Cup-like event for amateurs in late June.
