David Klingler Named to SWC Hall of Fame

HOUSTON - Former Houston quarterback David Klingler has been named to the newly reinitiated Southwest Conference Hall of Fame, the The Texas Sports Hall of Fame announced over the weekend.
Klingler joins Marci Bozarth (TCU), Chris Gilbert (Texas), Jacob Green (Texas A&M), Chuck Hixson (SMU), John McDonnell (Arkansas), Regina Cavanaugh Murphy (Rice), Dutch Schroeder (Baylor) and Carolyn Thompson (Texas Tech) in the second class to be inducted into the Southwest Conference HOF since 1995.
The class will be officially inducted at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 7, at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston. Tickets for the event are $75 each with a table of 10 available for $500. For more information or to purchase tickets to the event, visit The Texas Sports Hall of Fame website.
A three-year letterman at Houston (1989-91), Klingler rewrote numerous college passing records for the Cougars and still owns 21 NCAA FBS records to date.
On Nov. 17, 1990, Klingler threw an NCAA-record 11 touchdown passes in a single game and on Dec. 2 of the same year set the NCAA FBS record for most yards gained in a single game with 716 yards vs. Arizona State. In his four seasons at Houston, he completed 732 of 1,268 passes for 9,466 yards and 91 touchdowns.
Klingler joins 12 other former Houston athletes and coaches in the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame including former Track and Field head coach Tom Tellez, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame last fall.
The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame is one of four separate halls of fame housed within the Texas Sports Hall of Fame's physical structure. They include the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and now, the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
Media interviews with the inductees will be available before and after the luncheon on April 7.
