Cougars Conclude Day 3 of American Championships

HOUSTON - Houston Swimming and Diving wrapped up the third day of competition at the American Athletic Conference championships Friday evening at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Houston remains in sixth place with seven events remaining on Saturday as the hosts Louisville Cardinals lead the meet.
"Today was our strongest day of the meet so far and featured eight swims in the finals session by freshman and sophomores which speaks volumes about our future. Some of the highlights of the day included Top-8 finishes and life-time best times by Heather Winn and Taylor Gregory."
The senior Winn finished sixth (1:48.79*) in the 200 free for Houston's top finish on Friday. Freshmen Lindsay Schultz (1:51.20*) and Michaela Hamrick (1:52.73*) swam personal bests during their first collegiate championships in the 200 free while taking sixth and eight in the consolation finals.
Junior Taylor Gregory's personal best (55.45*) placed her eighth in the 100 back. Doroteja Bednjanec (56.85*) and Jasmine Williams (56.95) qualified for the consolation finals taking seventh and eighth place.
Three sophomores (Taylor Derevyanik, Maya Owens and Holly Criscuolo) took to the consolation finals in the 100 fly grabbing fourth, fifth and seventh.
"I'd also like to say thank you to the parents and fans that have made the trip to Louisville to support the young women on our team."
UP NEXT
Houston closes out the championships tomorrow. The morning prelims launch at 10 a.m. with the finals beginning at 6 p.m.
"We will finish strong tomorrow. We will show a resiliency that honors the commitment of our senior class and is reflective of the determined work we have committed to the season."
