Logan Piper Named Academic All-District

HOUSTON - Houston junior Logan Piper was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 Team the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
With the district honor, Piper is eligible to advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
An accounting major, Piper took over as Houston's starting punter in the fourth game of the season and currently has an average of 39.4 yards per punt with 11 punts resulting in fair catches by an opponent. Six of Piper's punts have landed inside an opponent's 20-yard line with three kicks 50 yards or longer including a career-long 54-yard punt vs. UNLV.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Piper and his teammates return to action this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. as they host Tulane in Houston's 2014 Homecoming game at TDECU Stadium. Tickets for the game start at just $25 and can be purchased for $25 at UHCougars.com/FBtickets.
