HOUSTON - Senior Reka Kovacs has been named to the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as voted by the league's sports information directors for the sport. The nominees had to hold at least a 3.2 GPA and be a regular participant for their team.
Kovacs, who holds a 3.85 GPA and is working towards her degree in kinesiology, has been one of the Cougars most dependable swimmers over the year. The junior from Budapest, Hungary, holds Houston's top marks in the 200 and 400 IM, and ranks No. 1 on the team in the 100 breast.
The other All-Academic honorees included Kylie Francis (East Carolina), Sarah Kay (Marshall), Shelby Bottoms (Rice), Alex O'Brien (Rice) and Danielle Spence (Rice), Genny Konicke (SMU) and Emily Vavourakis (SMU).
Kovacs holds the fourth-fastest time in conference this year in the 200 IM and get a shot to lower her time very soon as the Cougars host the C-USA Swimming and Diving Championships beginning tonight at 6 p.m. inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
