HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving program will host a quad meet against Tulane, Rice and LSU this Friday and Saturday at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
Friday's meet begins at 5 p.m. with Saturday's competition scheduled for an 11 a.m. start. Live results for the action can be found on UHCougars.com or by following @UHCougarsSwim on Twitter.
The meet will cover 20 events including four relays, three diving events and 13 individual races.
The Cougars are entering the final stretch of the season as they look to keep building off the strong training they accomplished over the winter break.
"We're nearing the end of the season and we're in a good place right now," said head coach Augie Busch. "Our team has really bonded over the past few months, bought into what the coaches are telling them and taken care of the work outside of the pool. We've been hitting the weights, the running trails, the film room and been training really hard to put ourselves in a great position to do well at the conference championships."
Houston will host the Conference USA Championships for the ninth-straight year on Feb. 15-18. With just a few weeks left until then, the competition has been ratcheted up for the program.
The Cougars nearly upset No. 13 SMU last week as the Mustangs pulled off a 155-143 decision.
Sophomore Heather Winn and senior Kim Eeson made a strong showing in the freestyle events last week. Eeson was a two-time event winner claiming first place in the 50 and 200 free. Winn took first in the 1,650 and was the runner up in the 500.
The next challenge for the UH team will be next week as they host No. 6 Texas A&M.
The diving portion of the meet will include all three dives (1M, 3M and platform) while only the first two will be scored for points. This offers the Houston divers an opportunity to get some competition practice on the platform, an event they have only competed on twice this year, before the C-USA Championships approach.
Julia Lonnegren, the reining C-USA Diver of the Week (Jan. 23), was victorious from the high dive the last time Houston hosted a platform dive competition.
