HOUSTON - Natasha Burgess was named the Conference USA Diver of the Week (Jan. 10) for the first time of her career following her strong performance at the Hawai'i Diving Invitational.
Burgess placed second in the 1M (274.05) for her third top-three finish of the year in the springboard competition. She also took home third in the 3M dive (277.10) to secure her fourth top-third finish in that event as well.
The freshman from Adelaide, Australia, became the 12th Cougar Diver to capture the weekly honor under head diving coach Jane Figueiredo since the award started in 2001.
Burgess is also the second different UH diver to be honored by the conference office this season already - junior Julia Lonnegren has won the award three times this year (Oct. 18, Nov. 22, and Dec. 6).
If not for the veteran Lonnegren, Burgess may have already snagged a few extra weekly awards at this point. With fellow freshman Torri Olanski also having a great first year, the depth of the diving program is shaping up nicely for the Cougars as they prepare for the final season push towards C-USA and NCAA Championships.
