In the second half, the Houston matched its output as freshman forward Alexis Weaver added a score for the Cougars in the 59th minute. Weaver freed herself up on the right wing where she set up and drove a shot just inside the left edge of the goalpost, giving the Cougars a 2-0 advantage.
UAB (3-6-0) showed signs of life when midfielder Emma Smith scored in the 65th minute. Cougar keeper Cami Koski slipped attempting a save, leaving an empty net, Smith then capitalized on the opportunity, bringing the Blazers within one.
The Cougars were able to hold UAB scoreless for the remainder of the match and went on to take the decision 2-1. Houston improved to 4-6-0 on the year following the victory. The Cougars are 1-1-0 in conference play.
Houston played well on both sides of the ball, outshooting the Blazers 21-5, while allowing only two shots on frame.
