University of Houston senior running back Bryce Beall has been named to the 2011 Doak Walker Award watch list, an award given nationally to the nation's best running back.
Beall has compiled 2,787 rushing yards over three years as a Cougar and scored 32 touchdowns. He was a first-team All-Conference running back in 2010 in addition to being the 2008 Conference USA Freshman of the Year. Last season, he broke the school record for career rushing touchdowns and needs less than 900 yards in 2011 to become the school's all-time rusher
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name the semifinalists on November 11, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the finalists, who will be announced on November 21. The committee will cast a second vote beginning on November 28 to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
The recipient of the 2011 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 8 on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas, in February 2012.
The award, in its 22nd year, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
PRESEASON HONOREES: Beall is one of five players named to national award watch lists. These are the latest preseason honors to come the Cougars' way. On Tuesday, offensive lineman Chris Thompson and linebacker Marcus McGraw were named to the Rotary Lombardi Watch List.
Last week, Thompson was one of 65 players nationally to be named to the Outland Trophy Watch List. Senior quarterback Case Keenum was named to the Watch List for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the nation's top offensive player. Senior Patrick Edwards was one of 75 players nationally on the Watch List for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the country's top receiver.
COACHES' ROAD TOUR: Fans can catch their favorite coaches and UH administrators in areas around Houston during the 2011 Coaches' Road Tour.
